Broken Arrow crews respond to water main break at 61st and Garnett; repairs to take about 8 hours

TULSA -- Crews are responding to a water line break at 61st Street and Garnett Road.

The break is believed to be a 12-inch line, and officials say it will affect some businesses on the southeast corner of the intersection, including the Reasors grocery store.

Residents in a nearby apartment complex are currently without heat or water due to the break.

Broken Arrow crews will have to repair the line, and that is believed to take about eight hours.

As of right now, the break has not affect traffic in either direction.

The City of Tulsa had about 16 water main breaks in 24 hours, due to the cold temperatures.

Officials say some of the large breaks took several hours to fix.

"With the coldness we've had lately, the ground begins to shift with the clay soil we have," said Justin Hager, Water Distribution System field supervisor. "We've had one 12-inch break, three 10-inch breaks, and two 2-inch breaks, since midnight Thanksgiving."
