Best casino odds: Blackjack, Craps, Roulette? Which games give you the best shot at winning

CATOOSA, Okla. - There are more than 70 casinos across Oklahoma and they're a sure bet for fun, but not always winning.

If you play smart, you could win big.

"I do real good on that one," said Dale Russell as he played the slots at the Hard Rock Casino.

Many players may not realize that some games give you an edge in winning, but slot machines aren't one of those games.

Jay Bean, floor manager for a national casino chain, said that table games have much better odds than slots.

He said Blackjack as the best odds of winning, with a house edge of just one percent.

"Blackjack is one of our easiest games to play, you're just looking for a number that beats the dealers number without going over 21," said Bean.

Craps is the game with the second best odds. But in Oklahoma, Craps is an electronic game, so the odds may be different from the table version.

The Roulette Wheel has the next best odds.

If you stick to betting on just reds or blacks, you once again have nearly a 50-50 chance of walking away a winner. But like Craps, it's played electronically in Oklahoma.

The game with the worst odds?

Forbes magazine says two popular games, the Wheel of Fortune and those ever popular slot machines, have the lowest odds of winning, with a house edge of 10 percent or more.

So what's the bottom line?

Professor of analytics Michael Magazine says Blackjack is the best way to go home with money in your pocket.

"You are somewhere between 44 to 48 percent in every single hand of winning," said Magazine.

Magazine says he doesn't promote gambling, cautioning that even games with the best odds still favor the house.

"Play it long enough and you will lose. In the long term, the house doesn't lose," he said.

If you're nervous about playing anything other than the slots, casino operators say your best bet is to visit during the slower morning hours, when dealers will be happy to help you learn about other games.
