CHEROKEE COUNTY, Okla. - The police chief for the town of Beggs was released on $35,000 bond Tuesday after allegedly holding his wife in a stranglehold and pointing a gun at her head.
Cherokee County undersheriff Jason Chennault said witnesses called his office from Cookson Bend Park on Lake Tenkiller Saturday about a disturbance in the area.
Deputies found Wesley Fish and his wife shortly after receiving the reports and, after conversation with the couple and witnesses of the alleged incident, brought Fish into custody on initial charges of feloniously pointing a firearm, making terroristic threats, domestic assault and battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Chennault said the police chief was compliant, but not entirely cooperative, instructing his wife not to talk.
Formal charges have yet to be filed. Beggs Police Department could not be reached for comment.
