Bama foods announced Thursday it will begin producing hot cakes for fast food giant McDonald's.
All-day breakfast at McDonald's has been wildly popular for the company. Now they're trusting the Tulsa company to keep it going. This new move will certainly benefit Green Country.
"It's an awesome feeling to be part of the McDonald's family," said longtime employee Tim Lutz.
City and company leaders broke ground Thursday and folks like Lutz came by to hear about the new $33 million opportunity.
"This one here is a different item for us. Pancakes...you're cooking on a griddle? It's kind of a neat thing," he said. "The pancake is another little thing we can add to our portfolio.
So how many extra employees does it take to get hot cakes in customers' hands across the country?
"When we have new expansion, that means everyone looks at Tulsa again," said Bama CEO Paula Marshall.
The operation is set to bring at least 55 jobs to BAMA alone. This does not include plant construction, shippers, even local suppliers that cater to Bama everyday.
"That means they'll add more team members. They'll have more jobs coming to them as well so it's a circle. It's a cycle that keeps repeating itself," said Marshall.
An estimated 75 million hot cakes will roll off the lines this winter, giving McDonald's more breakfast options all day and helping put Bama on the map.
"Obviously with this added line, it's going to be much more exposure for us and we're looking forward to having that," said Lutz.
A brand new 50,000 square foot facility will be built to accommodate the new operation. It's set to be finished sometime this fall with hot cake production planned for December.
