TULSA - The attorney for Tulsa oral surgeon Dr. W. Scott Harrington has released a statement nearly a week after allegations were made public that the doctor was involved in unsafe and unsanitary practices at his dental clinics.
The Oklahoma Board of Dentistry has called Harrington a "menace to the public health" and thousands of Harrington's patients have been encouraged by state and local health officials to undergo testing for hepatitis and HIV.

The statement was obtained by 2NEWS Wednesday morning. In it, attorney James Secrest II, from the firm Secrest, Hill, Butler & Secrest, calls Harrington a dedicated provider and says his client is cooperating with the investigation.
"For almost 35 years, Dr. Harrington has provided Oklahomans with dedicated oral surgical care. His previous record with the dental board is impeccable. He is taking the recent allegations very seriously and is fully cooperating with the Oklahoma Dental Board. At this time, out of respect for his patients and the sensitivity of the issues, Dr. Harrington will make no further comment on this matter."
On Friday, 2NEWS tracked Harrington down to a second home near Phoenix, Ariz. and he refused to comment. His whereabouts are presently unknown.
Harrington is due back in Oklahoma before the state dentistry board April 19 for a hearing that could determine his future in the profession.
