Animal shelters take stand against euthanization for 'Just One Day,' pledge to focus on alternatives

Animal shelters around the United States euthanize about 3 million dogs and cats every year,  according to the Humane Society of the United States.  But Tuesday will be different.

On June 11, shelters across the U.S. are taking the "Just One Day" pledge to not euthanize any savable animals and instead are focusing on methods to send companion animals home with caring families.

"Just One Day" is organized by No Kill Nation, a national advocacy organization dedicated to ending the killing of healthy and treatable animals in U.S. shelters.
