The 2014 Tour de Cure kicks off this morning.
The 25-mile bike ride supports the American Diabetes Association and its fight to find a cure.
2News meteorologist George Flickinger is among those to participate in today's event.
Ninety-three bicycles with helmets and red bows are on display to symbolize the 93 Oklahomans that die from diabetes each month. Those bikes will be walked to the starting line by those with diabetes and family members of those who lost their lives to diabetes.
According to American Diabetes Association, at least 93 Oklahomans die each month from diabetes, which is the fourth leading cause of death in the state.
"Oklahoma had a 226 percent increase in diabetes diagnoses over the last five years," the organization said in a release. "That is the highest in the nation."
Today's practice ride took place from Trek Bicycle Store, 9708 S. Riverside Pkwy. Tour de Cure's main ride will be in June, 2014.
