TULSA - Officials say a child abduction Monday in Bixby triggered a new way to send out Amber Alerts.
Thousands of Oklahomans received a message on their cellphones after a father reported his 4-year-old son kidnapped.
The Amber Alert message included a description of the child, the suspect and vehicle.
It is part of a new nationwide public safety program.
Most major cellphone providers participate in the program.
Some companies automatically enrolled all their users to receive messages, while others give customers the option to sign up.
