4 Tulsa fire hydrants illegally opened in freezing post-Christmas temperatures

TULSA - At least four Tulsa fire hydrants were illegally opened early Wednesday morning.

City of Tulsa officials said they were first notified of the hydrants' spewing around 6 a.m. The hydrants, which were shut off by 6:30 a.m., were opened between 4 and 5 a.m., officials said.

The freezing temperatures quickly formed ice, but city workers worked quickly to place sand and salt over the dangerous patches.

The incidents took place in the 6100 block of West 26th Street, the 2500 block of South 57th West Avenue, the 3100 block of South 61st West Avenue and the 3300 block of South 63rd West Avenue.

Those caught opening a fire hydrant can face a fine and potential jail time.
