Flooding closes sections of State Highway 10 in Nowata, Craig counties

NOWATA COUNTY, Okla. - The Oklahoma Department of Transportation announced Tuesday sections of State Highway 10 in Nowata and Craig counties are closed due to flooding.

In Nowata County, the highway is closed five miles east of Lenapah where according to Nowata County Commissioner Tim Kilpatrick, water is flowing across the road in two places — at the Cedar Creek and Verdigris River crossings.

East of there, 16 miles west of Welch in Craig County, the highway's Big Creek bridge is out as well due to flooding.

Back in Nowata County, Commissioner Dean Bridges told 2NEWS Road 18 near Road 411, washed out and closed Monday night due to storms, has been temporarily repaired.

"We are waiting until things calm down and then we'll fix it — but its passable now," he said.

Kilpatrick said he has several county roads closed due to water in his district on the eastern side of the county.

"Because of the water, I can't even get around to see how they are."

He said the Verdigris River is expected to crest Wednesday.
