FREE: Haircuts, dental screenings, school supplies, clothing for Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Union, more

TULSA - Several area businesses and programs are  providing assistance to parents by offering haircuts, school supplies, dental screenings and more for the 2014-15 school year.

HAIRCUTS - Aug. 4, 5 and 6

Clary Sage College is offering free haircuts for all school-aged children in the Tulsa metro community. CSC will offer haircuts between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. at its location at 3131 S. Sheridan. No appointment necessary. 

SCHOOL SUPPLIES – Aug. 4 through 7 and 11 through 14 (Tulsa Public Schools)

Project School Supplies sponsored by Restore Hope Ministries is giving away grade-specific school supplies to Tulsa Public Schools students pre-k through 12th grade.  Parents need to present a Social Security card for children and proof of child's birth date as well as parent’s photo ID and social security card to pick up supplies from 2960 South Charles page Boulevard 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.  

DENTAL SCREENINGS - Sept. 8 through 12

Participating dentists with the Oklahoma Dental Association are offering their time for free child screenings with their Back to School with a Healthy Smile. There are participating dentists in Claremore, Glenpool, Oologah, Sallisaw, Sand Springs, Sapulpa and three in Tulsa. BROKEN ARROW BACK TO SCHOOL BASH - Aug. 9 (9 a.m. until noon)

You must show proof of Broken Arrow residency. The three-hour event will provide free school supplies, haircuts, vision screening, fingerprinting, immunizations (bring shot records), hearing test and more to get your child ready for back to school. The bash is at the Tulsa Tech campus at the intersection of 111th and 129th East Avenue.

UNION PUBLIC SCHOOLS COMMUNITY FAIRS AND EVENTS - July 28 through Aug. 17

Click on this list of schools in the Union district to find out what is being offered for students enrolled at specific schools.  Events include backpack giveaways, free haircuts and back-to-school festivals.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES – Aug. 1 (Students in Rogers County)

Claremore First United Methodist Church is offering school supplies to Rogers County students .  Parents register for the school supplies at the Claremore First United Methodist Church Children’s Center at 1615 North Highway 88.  Upon registration, parents will be given a later date to pick the school supplies up.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES (Tulsa Public and Union Public schools)

The Partnership for the Availability of School Supplies (PASS) program provides school supplies to schools with the highest poverty rates in the Tulsa and Union school districts.

In five years, more than 300,000 sets of supplies, including crayons, pencils, markers, folders, rulers, spiral notebooks and scissors have been distributed to the neediest children in Tulsa.

SCHOOL CLOSINGS: Pick your child's school district and we'll send you an email when classes are canceled due to weather. You can also download our app to check our list of school closings when bad weather hits.

OPERATION SCHOOL BELL in TULSA COUNTY

This program is run by the Assistance League of Tulsa and serves Tulsa Public, Owasso, Sperry, Skiatook, Berryhill, Glenpool, Jenks, Kellyville, Keystone, Sand Springs, Union , Catoosa and Broken Arrow School Districts. Operation School Bell provides new clothing including two pair of either jeans, slacks, skorts, skirts or dresses; two tops, shirts or blouses; six pair of underwear; one T-shirt or one tank top; a belt; six pair of socks; one pair of shoes; one jacket; a sweater or sweatshirt; and one pair of gloves. Contact your child’s school counselor for an application form.

FREE IMMUNIZATIONS

The Caring Vans provide immunizations at no charge to children at child care facilities, schools and other convenient community locations.  This program helps Oklahoma schools keep children healthy and ready to learn by allowing them to receive vaccines without missing school and helping to prevent illnesses that could result in days out of the classroom.
