CRIME STOPPERS ALERT: Search continues for 16-year-old girl's killer 8 years later

TULSA - She was a beautiful young girl, still celebrating her sweet 16th -- a young life no one thought would end so soon.

"It just seems like you're having a nightmare or something," said the victim's aunt, Ava Stanley.

In February 2005, Ava was left in shock after her niece, Eli Craven, was shot and killed while riding in a car on East 46th Street in north Tulsa.

"It just seems like you're maybe watching a movie or something," said Ava.

Whoever shot Eli there that night did not mean to shoot her.  Police say they're sure she wasn't the target.

"It does happen where individuals are targeted and then someone else ends up being the victim of that crime," said Jill Roberson of the Tulsa Police Department's Crime Stoppers Unit.

Police say the real target was the car's driver, Lamont Toles.

They say he picked Eli up that night from a north Tulsa restaurant.

Then around 2 a.m. another car with a gunman inside drove by and opened fire.

Eli was shot in the neck.

"I guess you just never think it'll happen in your family," said Ava.

Eli was the innocent victim of an apparent gang feud.

After the shooting police say the killer drove off and has never been caught.

"There's no reason that someone can't come forward with more information and provide us that to help us solve this case," said Roberson.

Right now, police have no descriptions of the suspect or the car but they're confident whoever stole this young life will someday pay the price.

The driver of Eli's car, Lamont Toles, survived the shooting but several years later he was also shot and killed in a separate incident.

If you have any information, call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS.  You can remain anonymous. Crime Stoppers does not want your name, just your information.  Tips could result in a reward of up to $1,500.
