Caney Valley voters say yes to school bond proposals

RAMONA,Okla. - The unofficial results for Caney Valley school bond issue election in Washington County are back.

Voters on Tuesday approved two bond issue proposals totaling nearly $5.5 million set before voters in Oglesby, Ochelata, Ramona and Vera by the Caney Valley Public School District.

Proposition 1 passed after garnering 80 percent of the vote — well over the 60 percent of the vote as required by Oklahoma state law for passage. Proposition 2 gained 84 percent voting yes.

The first proposition was a $5.24 million to fund t he renovation of the old high-school building to host elementary grade classrooms as well as administrative offices and an expansion project targeting the elementary school's early childhood classrooms and its parking lot.

Additionally, funds would be used to complete the new roof on the middle and high school building, to upgrade the building's windows and doors for energy efficiency and to update the high school's front entrance, among other projects.

The second proposition for $200,00 was to fund improvements in the district's transportation department.
