Authorities search for teen that went missing in creek

TULSA - Authorities are looking for a teen that went missing near a north Tulsa creek Saturday night.

Three boys were seen playing in the creek near North Pine and East Sandusky around 8:45 p.m.

According to authorities, two of the boys managed to make it out of the water but one boy, who has been identified as Dario Hogan, 14, is still missing.

Authorities say because of thunderstorms there was rushing water in the ditch at the time Hogan went missing.

"The current was very strong," said Michael Baker, director of Emergency Medical Services for Tulsa Fire Department. "Once they realized the current was so strong, and the water was moving fast and it was deep, they jumped out of the water and luckily got to the bank -- at least two of the three did."

Rescue crews from the Tulsa police and fire departments are searching for Hogan. Teams of rescue workers are walking the creek with flashlights. A crew is searching by air, and rescue dogs have been brought in.

The creek has steep, 10 to 12 foot tall concrete walls. It leads into Bird Creek, north of Mohawk Park.

"This is a very rough terrain that we're trying to traverse to make sure we locate him," said Baker.

Rescue workers say searching at night presents more challenges, which is why they are asking the public for assistance.

Hogan weighs around 130 pounds and stands around 5 ft. 10 inches tall. He has brown curly hair and was last seen wearing only gray athletic shorts.
