Since 1960, Wheelchair basketball has been apart of the summer Paralympic Games and between both the men and women, team USA has earned  a total of ten gold medals.

Originally, the sport was reserved only for men with spinal cord injuries, but now wheelchair basketball is open to men and women with a variety of physical challenges.

Many of the rules are similar to Olympic basketball, however a few regulations are different in order to accommodate those in wheelchairs.

For instance, players must dribble at least once after touching their wheels twice and failure to do so results in a traveling violation.

The National Wheelchair Basketball Association was responsible for selecting team USA and 10 of the 12 women who won gold at the 2015 Parapan Am Games will return on this year's roster.

The U.S. women look to rebound in Rio after placing fourth at the London games in 2012. With a gold medal, the USA women's Paralympic team will have earned it's third first place finish in four attempts.
