A small group of strangers gathered in San Francisco in 1987 to document the lives they feared history would neglect.

December 1, 2015 is World AIDS Day and it was established in 1988. The AIDS Memorial Quilt originated in 1987 with the small group of people and now has over 48,000 individual memorial panels. It serves as a powerful reminder of the AIDS pandemic.
