Tax day freebies go social (media) this year

The time-honored tradition of tax day freebies comes with a new twist this year.

Retailers who offer them up to ease the pain of paying taxes are going social with their message.

They've become as certain in life as death and taxes. Those freebies restaurants traditionally hand out on tax deadline day, which this year is Tuesday, April 17.

But in many instances, you'll have to go through a few social media hoops to get the deal.

At Arby's, you'll need to go to their Facebook page for the coupon for a free order of curly fries.

By liking Panda Express on Facebook you'll get a free serving of its Shanghai Angus Steak...

Seattle's Best Coffee has free coffee available on its page .

Firehouse Subs is using Facebook to get word out its tax day "Double-the-Meat" deal.

At Chili's, you'll need to head right to their website for a coupon for a free appetizer or dessert.

Not every deal requires a download -- Some just a trip to the store.

For example, Office Depot is offering anyone who comes in Monday or Tuesday up to five pounds of free shredding as well as 25 free black and white copies of anything.

A trip to Marble Slab Creamery pays off with a free scoop of frozen yogurt from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

And PF Chang's is giving a 15 percent discount on dine-in and carry-out orders to ease the sting of tax day.
