Free school supplies available for Tulsa-area students in need

As the school year begins, parents stock up on the costly list of required school supplies and backpacks. 

For some, the purchase of these items is a hardship. 

To assist those in need, community churches and organizations have collected supplies and funds to donate not only school supplies and backpacks, but also haircuts and immunizations

Over the next few weeks these organizations are hosting back-to-school festivals, fairs and bashes. Some events even offer food, safety assistance and fun!

Here is a list of a few of the upcoming events:

Bixby Back-to-School Bash
When: August 5th, noon - 6:00 pm
Where: Bixby Outreach Center, 114 Breckenridge, Bixby
What: Free school supplies, free haircuts, mobile dental unit, free immunizations, hearing and screening test, safety seat check, free hot dogs and drinks, jupiter jumps, face painting
For: Students of Keifer, Mounds, Haskell, Bixby, Glenpool, Jenks, Leonard and Liberty schools

Back-to-School Fair
When: August 6th, 9:00 am – noon
Where: Broken Arrow Northside Christian Church, 1201 North Elm Place, Broken Arrow
What: Clothing, haircuts, school supplies and backpacks available for those in need. Just show up. No pre-registration needed.
For: Anyone in need

Back-to-School Festival
When: August 13th, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
Where: John 3:16 Mission Family and Youth Center, 2027 North Cincinnati Avenue
What: Free school supplies to up to 1,500 students, immunizations, food, sno-cones, games, inflatables
For: Low-income families with children (K-12). Parents must bring SS cards

Restore Hope Ministries
When: August 8th – 12th, M, T, W, Th, F 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM - 3 PM
Where: Restore Hope Ministries, 2960 South Charles Page Blvd., Tulsa (918) 582-5766
What: School supplies through program called Project School Supplies. Supplies are
distributed at the time of registration, 8/8-8/12/2011. Must bring Social Security cards for parent/guardian and for children; photo ID for parent/guardian. Application form required.
For: Students K-12 in Tulsa County schools.
