Students, staff evacuated from Leisure Park after experiencing shortness of breath, watery eyes

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. - Monday, several students and staff in a classroom at Leisure Park Elementary complained of breathing difficulty and watery eyes.

Officials say parents of students who were complaining have been notified. Students and staff were evacuated as a safety precaution.

While safety personnel investigated, students were transported to Aspen Creek Elementary.

Officials say pepper spray pellet one of the students brought into the school caused the watery eyes and difficulty breathing.

Students will remain at Aspen Creek for the remainder of the day. According to safety investigators, it takes about an hour for the fumes from the spray to dissipate.
