The Northern Kentucky Health Department spent more than a year and thousands of interviews identifying broad health care challenges in its district.
"We need to start to look at these things as community issues not just individual issues," said Steven Katkowsky, M.D., the director of the health district.
Mobilizing Action through Planning and Partnership – or MAPP – was created with the intention of designing a big picture solution to making Northern Kentucky more well.
"Well would include all of those behaviors all all those things whether it's reducing tobacco use or increasing proper nutrition," explained Katkowsky.
The program was put together in partnership with Vision 2015 and Children's Hospital in Cincinnati.
Access to primary health care was identified as a top priority as was the coordination of health care services.
"When there aren't sufficient resources to do everything we really have to make sure that we're not duplicating anything," said Katkowsky.
Many details haven't been shared but solutions like the creation of more health clinics could come as a result of the research.
