SIR PAUL MCCARTNEY played a surprise pop-up show in London's Covent Garden on Friday (18Oct13).
The former Beatles star had been signing copies of his latest album, New, at the recently reopened HMV store on nearby Oxford Street but fans were tipped off about an impromptu gig when McCartney-branded equipment was spotted by a stage in Covent Garden.
Half an hour before his appearance, McCartney tweeted, "I'm getting ready to pop up in Convent Garden at 1pm. Oh baby!"
He took to a makeshift stage on time and welcomed the crowd, saying, "Good afternoon. Welcome to Convent Garden. We're just going to do some songs from our new album so get your phones out - as if they weren't already."
McCartney and his band played five songs from the record, including the title track, Queenie Eye and All My Life and closed the show by telling fans, "Thank you very much. OK now, back to work!"
The concert follows a similar surprise performance in Times Square earlier this month (Oct13) that brought traffic to a standstill.
