Madonna to play remembrance video at Poland concert

MADONNA has agreed to show a video at her concert in Poland on Wednesday (01Aug12) to remember the 200,000 people who died in the Warsaw Uprising as the gig takes place on the 68th anniversary of the bloody 1944 revolt.

Catholic organisations and veterans groups in Poland held protests and urged fans to boycott the pop superstar' gig after it was scheduled on the poignant anniversary of Warsaw's uprising against Nazi occupation during World War II.

Madonna refused to cancel her stop in the capital city, but she has agreed to mark the date with a clip to remember all those who lost their lives.

Ania Pietrzak, a spokeswoman for concert promoters Live Nation, tells the Press Association, "It is an important moment in Polish history, so we have decided to remind people of that moment."
