TULSA - The college football season is about to begin, and all three state teams are big favorites, including one team playing on the road. OU the biggest favorite, OSU by plenty, and TU gets the nod in a road contest.
Let us begin with the #7 ranked Sooners. Utah State hits Norman for a Saturday night contest. Oklahoma is a 31 1/2 point favorite to beat the visitors. That is plenty of points, but as we know, OU has been favored by more many times. The good news for Utah St. They have more than a few players back. The bad news for Utah St. They have more than a few players back. Coming off a bad season does not mean return players will make you better. An OU win means the schools 800th win in its football history. Only 7 other schools have ever done that.
OSU opens with Washington St. Any other year this would sound like a competitive game. Great on paper. Pac-10 team comes to town. But even the play-by-play announcers for Washington St. are calling their team a junior college or Division 1-AA team. That is just cruel..Just think. These 2 schools almost became conference partners. OSU is a 14 1/2 point favorite, and even though the Pokes are bringing a new offense to town, OSU should romp.
Tulsa goes on the road to East Carolina for a Sunday game, and somehow Tulsa is an 8 point favorite over the 2 time defending C-USA champs. Go figure. New coaching staff at East Carolina, but this outfit is opening a new stadium and all that good stuff. Still, the Pirates get the no-respect card from the oddsmakers. It is not as if TU has scared people lately. If TU can win this one, it has the makings of a good year. However, the first three conference games are on the road. And this is one of those games.
Recap- OU 31/ 1/2 over Utah St.
OSU 14 1/2 over Washington St.
TU 8 over East Carolina
