The 29-year-old wife of former Oklahoma Sooners defensive tackle Tommie Harris died Sunday, according to The Chicago Sun-Times .
The report said Ashley Harris died in an Oklahoma hospital after suffering a stroke or brain aneurysm two days earlier.
Tommie and Ashley were married in January.
The couple has two children, the youngest born four months ago.
Tommie was the 14th overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. He spent seven seasons in Chicago before being released. Harris played for the San Diego Chargers in 2011.
Former teammates Johnny Knox, Anthony Adams and Israel Idonije flew to Norman to be with Harris.
"Our hearts go out to Tommie and his family," Bears coach Lovie Smith told the team's website. "When I first heard [Ashley was in the hospital], we all started praying and hoped there would be a different outcome. At times like this, what can you say except to try to be there for him in any way you possibly can."
Ashley's funeral will be held Friday in New Orleans.
