Trailing for much of the night, Joseph Randle gave the Cowboys a 33-28 lead with 9:36 to play. Randle ran for 199 yards and two touchdowns. Texas responded with a 75 yard drive, capped by a Bergeron touchdown to give the Longhorns a 34-33 advantage.
J.W. Walsh, making his first career start, then led the Cowboys on a seven play, 58 yard drive that culminated in a 24-yard field goal by Quinn Sharp, to give OSU a 36-34 advantage with 2:34 to play.
Walsh threw for 307 yards and ran for 57 more. He tossed two touchdown passes, but also had an interception that led to a Texas touchdown.
Longhorns QB, Davis Ash -who struggled mightily for most of his freshman season- had a career night. Ash completed 30 of 37 passes, for 304 yards and three touchdowns. He also connected on two critical throws in the final drive. One, to D.J. Grant on 4th-and-6 and another to Mike Davis, which put Texas in scoring position.
The Cowboys - who unveiled a 2011 Big 12 Champions banner before the game - had beaten Texas each of the past two seasons, but now trails in the series, 22-5.
