NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- The late Oklahoma play-by-play announcer Bob Barry Sr. will be honored posthumously with the National Football Foundation's Chris Schenkel Award.

The foundation announced Thursday that Barry will be recognized in New York on Dec. 4 at its annual awards dinner, which coincides with a presentation of the College Football Hall of Fame inductees.

The award recognizes a sports broadcaster with a long and distinguished career broadcasting college football with direct ties to a specific university.

Barry was the Sooners' radio play-by-play voice from 1961 to 1972 and again from 1991 until 2010. In between, he called games at Oklahoma State and Tulsa.
