TULSA — Jordan Clarkson scored 21 points and Tulsa used a torrid second half to bury Houston with a 72-48 lopsided victory on Saturday night, giving head coach Doug Wojcik his 138th victory -the most-ever by a Golden Hurricane coach.
Tulsa (15-10, 8-3 Conference USA) shot 59 percent in the second half en route to outscoring Houston (11-12, 3-7) 46-26. Steven Idlet scored 15 points to compliment nine rebounds and Scottie Haralson contributed 13 for the Golden Hurricane.
Houston’s bench was outscored 19-0 in the second half, which began to spiral in earnest for the Cougars following a Clarkson layup that broke a 30-all tie with 13:28 remaining and sparked a 17-1 Tulsa run that put the game out of reach. Houston had previously overcome a 26-22 halftime deficit to lead tie the game. The Cougars’ last lead occurred at the 15:56 mark of the first half to the tune of 6-5.
Joseph Young and Jonathon Simmons led Houston with 13 points apiece.
Wojcik passed Clarenece Iba for the school record in wins. In nearly seven seasons in Tulsa, Wojcik has a record of 138-90.
