TULSA - The Golden Hurricane football team will start their season picked to defend their Conference USA title.
The league's coaches unanimously voted Tulsa to win the conference's West Division Wednesday. Tulsa won the conference title game last season over the University of Central Florida 33-27 in overtime.
East Carolina received 11 of the 14 first place votes to top the East Division.
The coaches favored Tulsa again when five Golden Hurricane players we named to the preseason all-conference first team. Offensive lineman Jake Alexander and Stetson Burnett, linebacker Shawn Jackson, safety Demarco Nelson and punt returner Trey Watts were given the preseason honors.
Tulsa opens the 2013-14 season August 29 at Bowling Green.
