MELBOURNE, Australia - A former Tulsa Hurricane standout and collegiate national champion came up short in his first round match of the Australian Open.
Arnau Brugues-Davi squared off against fellow Spaniard Feliciano Lopez, currently ranked No. 42 in the world, in a match that could be seen in the U.S. Sunday night.
The 27-year-old lost to Lopez 3-6, 2-6, 4-6. Lopez will now face Czech player Radek Stepanek in the second round.
The match was Brugues-Davi's introduction to the Australian Open.
