Oklahoma University announces plans for indoor rowing center

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- The University of Oklahoma has announced plans for a new practice facility for the school's rowing program.
The Board of Regents approved the $6.5 million project this month. The university says groundbreaking should occur in March for the 24,000-square-foot Oklahoma Rowing Training Center.
OU says the new facility should be completed in the spring of 2014.
The university says it will build an indoor, 16-seat rowing tank that team members can use when they aren't practicing on the water on the Oklahoma River.
Rowing is in its fifth season as a varsity sport and is the largest women's team at OU. The sport has been sanctioned by the NCAA since 1997.
The Sooners open the 2013 season on March 9 when they host the OU Invitational on the Oklahoma River.
