BOULDER, Colo. (AP) -- Former Oklahoma State football coach and Colorado assistant Bob Simmons has been hired as head football coach at Boulder High School.

He met with players of his new team Monday.

Simmons was on Colorado's coaching staff when the Buffaloes won a national title in 1990. He coached Colorado's outside linebackers from 1988-91 and the defensive line from 1992-94.

He led the Cowboys for six seasons, compiling a 30-38 record between 1995 and 2000. His 1997 squad was the only one with a winning record.

He last was a full-time coach when he was an assistant head coach and special teams coordinator at Portland State. He resigned his positions there before the 2010 season.

Simmons lives in the Denver suburb of Thornton.

Simmons tells The Denver Post he'd always been interested in coaching again. He says he got a passion to get back in.
