BARTLESVILLE, Okla. - Slick road conditions due to overnight snowfall has prompted the closing of one Washington County school district and two Bartlesville private schools. According to officials, an estimated two to three inches of snow fell throughout Washington County overnight.

Due to the inclement weather classes have been canceled for Caney Valley Public School District, as well as for American Christian School and Wesleyan Christian School in Bartlesville. Classes at the Bartlesville, Dewey and Copan Public Schools Districts will continue as normally scheduled.

Washington County Emergency Management Director Kary Cox said throughout the county, roads are slick and in most places, slushy. Bridges and over passes are frozen over as well.

He warned motorists to be careful and take it easy as they drive Monday.

Cox told 2NEWS road crews are working throughout the city and county to clear main road ways.

“It's looking pretty good,” Cox said, describing road and traffic conditions as of 8 a.m. He said thus far, though a few vehicles have slid — one off into a ditch — no significant traffic incidents have been reported.

City of Bartlesville Public Works Director Keith Henry told 2NEWS Monday morning city road crews began salting and sanding roads at about 4 a.m. While initially the city was only operating four trucks, a second band of snow around 6 a.m. necessitated more trucks.

Henry said currently the city has six trucks operating. He said snow amounts never reached levels to necessitate much plowing.

Road conditions will improve as temperatures increase throughout the day, he said.
