Oklahoma unemployment rate falls to 5.1 percent in November, well under national mark

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Unemployment in Oklahoma dropped one-tenth of 1 percent in November and is now more than 1 percent below the state's jobless rate a year ago.

The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission said Friday the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 5.2 percent last month. The unemployment rate in October stood at 5.3 percent. The state's unemployment rate stood at 6.3 percent in November 2011.

The commission says seasonally adjusted non-farm employment in Oklahoma grew by 2,700 jobs last month.

Oklahoma added jobs in six of 11 categories in November with government, construction and manufacturing leading the way. For the year, nine employment categories added jobs, with trade, transportation and utilities and government at the top of the list.

Nationwide, the unemployment rate was 7.7 percent in November.
