Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin signed an executive order Monday mandating the flying of all American and Oklahoma state flags on state property at half-staff for Vietnam Veterans Day.

The day, intended to commemorate the service of American men and women in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia during the Vietnam War, falls on March 21 in 2013.

An Oklahoma statute enacted in 1998 officially designated the holiday for the third Thursday of March.

Under the ordinance, "all state agencies, interested organizations, groups, and individuals" are urged to participate from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

According to militaryfactory.com, 988 Oklahomans were casualties of the Vietnam War.
