PANAMA, Okla. (AP) -- LeFlore County authorities say more than a dozen malnourished horses have been taken from a ranch near Panama.
Sheriff Rob Seale told the Southwest Times Record that 26 horses were taken Saturday after a local resident reported several malnourished horses and that one was dead.
Seale declined to release the name of the man who owned the animals on the property about 15 miles west of the Oklahoma-Arkansas state line.
Seale says the LeFlore County district attorney's office granted him permission to seize the horses without a court order.
