Gov. Mary Fallin announces 22 more county burn ban repeals, 33 still under restriction

Twenty-two more Oklahoma counties received good news Thursday as Gov. Mary Fallin announced another large-scale burn ban repeal.

The governor cited recent rains for the bans' lifting in a press release.

“The long term forecast shows continued drought conditions through much of the state where the ban remains in effect, but the risk of wildfire has lessened in several areas, allowing us to reduce the burn ban coverage,” Fallin said. “We are hopeful that rains will continue across the state to allow further reduction of the ban.”

BURN BAN GUIDELINES

Fallin made a similar announcement Sept. 17, relieving an initial 22 counties from the ban.

Tulsa County was included in the repeal, but chose to re-extend the ban for another week. It was lifted Monday.

Thirty-three counties remain under the state-mandated ban, and Creek, McLain and Pittsburg counties are under self-imposed restrictions, according to Oklahoma Forestry Services.
