OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- An appeals court has scheduled an Aug. 14 execution date for an Oklahoma death row inmate convicted in the deaths his ex-girlfriend and her two young children.
The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals set the date Thursday for Michael Edward Hooper.
Hooper was convicted in Canadian County of three counts of first-degree murder and sentenced to death for the Dec. 7, 1993, killings of 23-year-old Cynthia Lynn Jarman, and her two children, 5-year-old Tonya and 3-year-old Timmy. Each of the victims was shot twice in the head and their bodies were buried in a shallow grave in a field.
The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld Hooper's convictions in 2002, but overturned his death sentences. Hooper was once again sentenced to death in 2004.
