OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City-based gas driller Chesapeak Energy is facing hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines.

The citations are from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection for three separate violations in that state.

Chesapeake agreed to pay the $565,000 in fines after Pennsylvania regulators found they failed to follow rules to protect streams and wetlands.

Chesapeake lost control of a gas well last April, spilling fluids into a nearby creek.

Regulators found contaminants in the area but no lasting damage.

The other two violations were similar in nature.

Chesapeake says the company is working hard to improve its operations.

2011 was a tough year for Grand Lake. The area was devastated by a blizzard, a tornado and an outbreak of Blue Green Algae. But with the opening holiday weekend of the holiday season looking promising, area businesses hope to be able to make up for some of the revenue they lost last season.
