OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma gun enthusiasts will have plenty of opportunities to stock up on weapons and ammunition over the next few weeks, with gun shows planned across the state.

Two major gun shows are planned for Saturday and Sunday, one at the Civic Center in Elk City and another at the State Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City.

Gun shows also are scheduled for next weekend in Tulsa, Oklahoma City and Woodward.

Gun dealers have reported brisk sales in recent weeks amid fear that federal officials plan to restrict firearms sales in the wake of the deadly school shooting in Connecticut.

Some sales of weapons at gun shows currently are conducted without a criminal background check, but President Barack Obama urged Congress last week to require background checks on nearly all gun sales.
