TULSA - Norma wants to know why she needs to recycle. Officials say in addition to environmental benefits using the provided recycle container for paper, plastic and glass will let you get a smaller trash receptacle, lowering your monthly costs.
Fred says he is upset he has to pay 50 cents each for additional stickers once he uses his 10 free stickers for trash and green waste that won't fit in his trash container.
He says, "I have a lot of oak trees and have to rake all the time. All those 50-cent stickers are going to add up for me."
The new Tulsa trash plan provides for people who send more waste to the landfill to pay more, whether by having the largest trash container or paying for those additional stickers.
You can bag and put leaves and sticks that fit in your trash container.
Additionally the Tulsa Authority for Recovery of Energy (TARE) has approved November, December and January for free green-waste pickup , to include organic materials such as leaves, twigs, lawn clippings and plants.
TARE and the city of Tulsa Solid Waste staff are working together to identify opportunities for additional green-waste collection days, as well as seasonal complimentary collection opportunities.
Green waste does have to be placed in clear or transparent bags.
You have until June 8 to chose the size of trash container you want and whether you want once- or twice-a-week pickup.
The recycle container comes with your service unless you opt out.
