TULSA - Sprinklers left on during freezing weather can cause black ice patches even when roadways are generally clear. Jonas wants to know "People shouldn't leave their sprinklers to run when it's freezing or below. So is the homeowner responsible for causing an accident?"
Not according to police.
If you hit an icy patch, even though it was caused by someone else, it will fall on your car insurance to pay.
That said for safety sake anyone with a sprinkler is encouraged to turn the system off when freezing weather is on the way or even install a detector that will turn the system off, automatically, when temps get below 32 degrees.
