TULSA - We all know to replace those air conditioner filters regularly, but when was the last time you actually did it?
Add it to the "honey-do" list because dirty filters restrict air flow, making your a/c work harder and raising your energy bill.
Here are a few other tips to keep your cool without breaking the bank:
Leave the oven off and use the microwave instead. Or grill your meals outside, preferably in the shade.
You'll save more if you can leave the clothes dryer off and hang your clothes to dry either outside or inside.
If you're in the market for home improvements, the Oklahoma Society of CPAs recommends you look for energy efficient window coverings and chose Energy Star appliances. They're less expensive to run and some offer tax benefits.
Finally, keeping hydrated will keep you cooler so opt for water rather than sugary, carbonated drinks or alcohol. Plus, tap water is the cheaper alternative too.
