OHP, police pursuit of Dewey man ends in Collinsville

DEWEY, Okla. - Collinsville police arrested a Dewey man Wednesday night after he allegedly stole a vehicle and lead a police pursuit from Dewey to Collinsville — the chase at times reaching speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.

Richard Ray Taylor, 19, was transferred to Tulsa County following his arrest and is expected to be charged with with possession of stolen vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor-vehicle, eluding, assault with a deadly weapon, operating a motor vehicle without a required license, reckless driving and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident, according to Collinsville police.

According to Bartlesville Police Chief Tom Holland, at around 10:30 p.m. the Bartlesville Department joined in on the chase after receiving a radio call from Dewey officers reporting they were in a pursuit of a pick-up headed toward Bartlesville.

“Troopers tried to deploy stopsticks but were not successful,” Holland said, saying the pursuit continued through Bartlesville all the way to near the Cherokee Casino in Ramona where Bartlesville officers gave up the chase.

He said speeds had gone up to around 115 miles per hour during the chase.

According to Holland, county units and state troopers continued the chase toward Collinsville where Collinsville police eventually picked Taylor up.

It was then that police discovered the truck Taylor had been driving had been stolen out of Dewey.

Washington County Court records indicate Taylor was arrested twice last year for vehicle larceny.

Dewey Police Department Sgt. Tim told 2News Wednesday's incident occurred the same day Taylor had been released after serving a six month jail sentence for a vehicle larceny in June.
