Man leading police on chase killed in Lawton crash

LAWTON, Okla. (AP) -- Authorities say a man leading Lawton police on a car chase was killed when he crashed the vehicle.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says the man was killed about 3 a.m. Saturday while being chased by the officer.
Lawton police say the chase began when the man fled a motel after an officer arrived to investigate reports of an assault. Police say the officer ended the chase after losing sight of the vehicle -- but a second officer spotted the suspect and renewed the chase.
Details of the crash and the names of the dead man and the officers involved in the chase were not immediately released.
The OSBI says Lawton police asked the agency to investigate and that Oklahoma Highway Patrol investigators are working to recreate the accident.
