YALE, Okla. -- An evacuation in Yale has been lifted after a natural gas leak Monday afternoon.
The leak began around 2 p.m. while a utility pole was being installed. Yale police say crews may have hit a gas line, causing the leak.
About a half-mile radius was evacuated around D and Boston streets.
Highway 51 at Underwood in Payne County was closed for about two hours during the leak.
Students at the high school were transferred to the elementary school, while evacuated residents went to Yale First Assembly of God Church on Highway 51 until the leak was repaired.
