TULSA - A north Tulsa man is in jail, accused of two counts of cruelty to animals, however his wife is claiming the whole situation is a big mistake.
Court documents state a little girl was playing with puppies, which belonged to Robert and Miranda Beach. At one point, they allege one of the dogs yelped and two older dogs attacked the girl. The documents say Beach then took the two bigger dogs in to his garage and hit them in the head with a sledgehammer, killing both.

Miranda Beach says her husband was simply acting in self-defense. "We're animal lovers," she said.
Miranda believes her husband killed the dogs because he feared they would continue to attack the little girl, or turn on him. "It wasn't like, 'Oh, I'm going to kill you or nothing like that,'" said Miranda. "It was, 'Oh my god, that dog just attacked a little girl.'"
Miranda says Robert used a sledgehammer because the family does not own a gun.
Robert is being held on a $2,500 bond.
