TULSA - An escapee from the Northeast Oklahoma Correctional Center is back in custody.
On Wednesday morning, James Maxwell, 49, broke out of the Vinita facility where he was serving time for assaulting a police officer.
Authorities found Wednesday night in the Tulsa area along the Gilcrease Expressway after he was seen getting into a red Dodge Ram near 11th and Mingo.
Police say Maxwell was in a vehicle occupied by three other people were inside the vehicle, including his daughter. When police made contact, Maxwell ran. He was apprehended about 40 yards from the vehicle.
According to the police report, Maxwell was carrying a gun when he was captured and more than $1,000 were found in the vehicle.
