US Airways gains American Airlines' union support

A plan by US Airways to takeover American Airlines passed a major hurdle Friday as the company gained the backing of the the bankrupt airline's unions. 

US Airways worked out deals with three labor unions at American Airlines who agreed to support a potential merger.

US Airways the move could save more than 6,000 of the 13,000 positions that have been projected to be cut.

American and it's parent company, AMR, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in November.
