TULSA - Steve's Sundry, Books & Magazines, a Tulsa staple since 1947, is closing its doors.
The locally-owned store announced Thursday it will close at 6 p.m. Dec. 31 for the last time.
"Our lease is coming up for renewal early 2014, and with the current flux of the book industry, I have decided it is now time to begin the next chapter in my life," said owner Joanie Stephenson.
Stephenson said the store, located near 26th and Harvard, is closing because of the economic climate, changes in publishing and Internet buying.
"This was not an easy decision," said Stephenson. "Steve's Sundry has been a part of the Tulsa fabric since 1947. We are an institution."
Steve's will be closed Dec. 25 through Dec. 27. The store will reopen Saturday, Dec. 28 at 10 a.m. for a closing sale. All inventory, including books, calendars and sundry items, will be sold for 40 percent off.
The soda fountain and fixtures are also available for purchase.
Gift cards will be honored through Dec. 24. The closing sale will be cash only.
