TULSA - Tulsa Public Schools' first "early release Friday" of the school year is this Friday.

Students are being released from school approximately two hours early. Release times vary by school. A schedule can be found on Tulsa Public Schools' website on the "My Child's School" page under "Parents."

A school lunch is being served prior to the early release. Buses will run about two hours earlier than their regularly scheduled time.

Parents are responsible for their own child care arrangements, though TPS afterschool programs are still available for those already enrolled.

TPS officials say early release Fridays enable teachers, staff and administrators to participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), where effective teaching methods and techniques can be studied and shared.  The goal of PLCs is ultimately to improve student achievement.
